KISDtalk: A Touch of Code

A talk about generative design at the KISD – Cologne International School of Design
November 2016

The combination of design and programming allows a very different approach to how we design things. The so called „generative design“ is a fluid and iterative process. It results in dynamic and versatile outcomes. Using it as a design method, we can tame huge amounts of data. We can also work with a great number of single entities and make them interact with each other to produce emergent patterns and behaviors.

Since our brain is super specialized in reading the natural world it really get’s interesting when code simulates natural phenomena. Reaching into the three-dimensional physical space, it can affect our state of mind, our feelings and have a profound impact on us humans.
